NMEA 2000 is the marine standard for data communication between marine instruments. NMEA 2000 connects multiple instruments together (Sensors, Sonar, GPS, and Multi-Function Displays etc), regardless of brand for the purpose of sharing and/or displaying user selectable data with any or all other display instruments installed on the NMEA 2000 network.

FUSION has introduced NMEA 2000 connectivity to the 750 Series Marine Entertainment Systems and 205 Series. Adding NMEA 2000 connectivity is the logical progression of the FUSION True-Marine™ standard and further cements FUSION as the Marine Entertainment Standard.

Connecting your 750 Series or MS-RA205 to a NMEA 2000 Network requires additional cabling. Configuration is dependent on the FUSION marine stereo and FUSION wired remote control being incorporated into the network. We recommend you have a professional install your system.

The FUSION NMEA 2000 mico connectors and T-Connectors follow the NMEA 2000 standard and are compatible with other NMEA 2000 micro connectors, cables and supported NMEA 2000 devices.

FUSION offers a drop cable to combine any stereo or remote combination together, whether you're utilizing a NMEA 2000 network or a stand alone FUSION network. Please contact your local FUSION rep for further advice and to order any of these cables

+ What is NMEA 2000?

NMEA 2000 is a set of marine electronics standards enabling a Multi-Talk/Multi-Listen network. This means, there can be different manufacturer's devices on a vessel sending and receiving data simultaneously.

This is an open network based on Controller Area Network. The network controls electronics, electrical, and engine data all on the same network. One advantage for NMEA 2000 is data and power can both be carried on one cable.

The data is transferred at 250 kilobytes a second which is fifty times faster than it is with NMEA 0183. NMEA 2000 incorporates standard connectors and cables for use among all manufacturers adhering to this standard. This makes NMEA 2000 a "Plug and Play" system with a real time data stream.

For more information on NMEA 2000, visit NMEA's website at

+ What FUSION marine devices and accessories are NMEA 2000 Compatible?

FUSION makes devices that are NMEA 2000 compatible. These devices use NMEA 2000 to communicate with each other. NMEA 2000 is a faster language protocol than NMEA 0183 and will allow much more data to be shared between devices.

+ What marine devices or accessories are powered by the NMEA 2000 network?

FUSION uses the NMEA 2000 network to share data between devices and remote control devices. Our head units are powered using a directly connected power cable that is connected to the power source of the boat. Our NRX200 remote controls are powered from the NMEA 2000 network.

• MS-IP700 Marine Stereo for iPod (powered directly from supplied power cable)
• MS-AV700 Marine DVD Stereo (powered directly from supplied power cable)
• MS-NRX200 Remote Control and NMEA 2000 Display (powered from the NMEA 2000 network)

+ How many devices can be connected to a NMEA 2000 Network?

The NMEA 2000 network will work properly as long as there is no more than 3 VDC drop in the supply voltage between the power source and the NMEA 2000 device located farthest from the power source on the NMEA 2000 network. To determine the voltage drop in your NMEA2000 network your certified NMEA 2000 installer will use the following equation:

Voltage Drop = Cable resistance (ohms/m) x Distance (from the battery to the farthest device, in metres) x Network Load x 0.1

Network Load equals the sum of Load Equivalent Numbers (LEN) between the battery and the end of the network. The LEN for each device should be visible on the device or provided in the device documentation.

+ What is the maximum length of NMEA 2000 cable that can be used to connect my device to a T-Connector

The maximum length of a NMEA 2000 cable that is used to connect any device or accessory to a T-Connector is 6 metres (20 feet).

If a 6 metre cable is not long enough to connect the device or accessory to the T-Connector, a longer NMEA 2000 backbone cable will need to be connected into the backbone of the NMEA 2000 network. This cable would be installed between two T-Connectors in the NMEA 2000 backbone. The distance between any two points on a NMEA 2000 network must not exceed 100 m (328ft).

An address based data packet network capable of high speeds (10/100/1,000Mbs) originally developed for the computer industry that is seeing adoption in the marine industry. Ethernet networks are designed as a star topology. Systems of three or more nodes require a hub, router or switch to facilitate all point to point connections.
FUSION-Link™ Ethernet supported Multi-Function Displays (MFD's) become the entertainment control centre for the entire vessel once connected to the FUSION 750 Series Marine Entertainment Systems.
